¡Hola amigos!

Hey, Julio here! ¿Qué onda?

Today we’re talking about how to say “the thing is…” in Spanish. It’s actually super easy — you just use “lo” before an adjective. Here are some examples that you’ll hear all the time in natural Spanish conversation.

  • Lo bueno es que… – The good thing is
  • Lo importante es que… – The important thing is
  • Lo increíble es que… – The amazing thing is
  • Lo mejor es que… – The best thing is
  • Lo raro es que… – The strange thing is
  • Lo único es que… – The only thing is
  • Lo ridículo es que… – The ridiculous thing is

And now, here’s a quick context to help you remember these phrases more easily.

All characters appearing in the short story below are fictitious. Any resemblance to real people, living or dead, is purely coincidental — or maybe it actually happened to one of my friends.

Are you up for a little challenge? Try writing your own short example or mini-dialogue using at least four of the seven phrases we learned today. You can share your examples in the comments — the more the merrier!

¡Hasta la próxima!
