¡Hola amigos!

Julio Foppoli here! I am sure you can remember your first Spanish lessons where you learned to ask ¿Cómo estás? along with its stock answers such as Muy bien, gracias, ¿y tú?

Well, today I give you seven more ways to ask the same question – except that these are much more ‘street’. ¿Cómo estás? is barely sidewalk 🙂

Cheat Sheet
¿Qué pasa? – Wassup?
¿Qué (me) cuentas? – What’s new?
¿Qué me dices? – What’s the story?
¿Cómo van las cosas? – How are things going?
¿Cómo te va? – How’s it going for ya?
¿Cómo andas? – How are you doing?
¿Cómo estamos? – How are we?

I know ‘How are we?’ might sound a little patronizing in English, but trust me, it is more embracing in Spanish and it sounds even more friendly.

Oh, and as a bit of a bonus, those that begin with ¿Cómo…? can also be used with ¿Qué tal…?, so for example you can also ask, ¿Qué tal van las cosas? So you get eleven for the price of seven! That’s gotta be value!

So there you go! Seven new ways to ask how people are. Did you know some of them already?

Nos vemos pronto 🙂
